Day 3: Sacramento

Today was spent in our state capitol.  We woke up to a nice day and took off early for a tour of the Capitol. Somehow our guided tour got bumped but we still got a chance to walk through the most important parts of the building.  Sacramento is a very pretty city with so many trees!(I had to wonder how much water was being used to keep the Capitol grounds so lush....)
Our next stop was Old Sacramento Schoolhouse.  We traveled back in time to the 1800's and got to experience a glimpse into the life of a student during that time. Boys and girls sat on opposite sides of the classroom back then and were asked to "make their manners" (bow or curtsy before speaking or answering a question).  A couple of our girls were reprimanded because they had nail polish on.  Back then they would have received a switch to the back of their hands.  Boys with bitten or dirty nails were given a swat to their backsides.
Later we explored Old Sacramento then headed for Costco pizza dinner on the way back to the campground.  Class council was under the stars around the campfire.  I am so impressed with this group of kids.  There has been little drama and kids have been stepping up when needed.  They have taken on the last three days with enthusiasm and camaraderie.  I love watching them explore, interact with each other and take on new risks and challenges. So far it has been an amazing trip!

Student question of the day:  What color are the Assembly and Senate rooms and why?
